Please join NorCal SAF for the 21st Annual Forest Conservation Days (FCD) program. This program takes place at Sanborn Skyline Park located near the town of Saratoga, California. The 2012 program marks the 21st year of the FCD tradition of educating 5th graders, Scouts and the Public about Forest Conservation. This goal is met using the Web of Life, hikes in the woods with professional resource managers, Displays about wood products, pencil and paper making, fire management, Fish, Silviculture, Forest Management, careers in natural resource management, logging equipment, portable sawmill, the Steam Donkey engine, etc.

For 2012, General public and Boy and Girl Scout participation will be Saturday and Sunday, March 17 and 18. Help is needed for set up on Friday, March 16th and take down late Friday, March 23. We plan to reach 1,500 members of the general public, 1,500 students and 100 plus teachers and parents. The student participation days will be Monday through Friday, March 19 to 23. (Monday – Wednesday will have morning and afternoon sessions. Thursday and Friday will have one large session that stays all day. Volunteers on those 2 days need to be there all day. Partial days are possible on Monday to Wednesday and Saturday and Sunday. We are seeking multiple day commitments from Foresters, Geologists, Archaeologists, Wildlife Biologists, Soil Scientists (willing to staff a station), Fire Management Professionals, and other resource professionals who are familiar with California forestry to assist in the hike in the woods, and active interpretation at the exhibits.  We need volunteers for the wood products and other exhibits. For someone who might have trouble walking the trails or feels uneasy instructing students, but still would like to help, we have a position for you. We need a person each day during the week to help send out the incoming students and remain near the park kiosk in case of emergencies, relay phone messages, deliver school packets, assist late or early arrivals, etc while the trail guides are out on the trail.

Please consider donating your time for this educational effort and fill out the volunteer registration form below.  Lunch will be provided and FREE, limited overnight accommodations are available at the Cal Fire facility located at Saratoga Summit Fire station , March 18th –  24th.
